Komm mit! (Level 1)
To learn a second language requires:
In order to learn a second language, the aforementioned areas must be practiced on a daily basis. During class I will present the students with various opportunities to use and practice what they have learned on an individual, partner and group level. I plan on utilizing portions of the Komm mit! curriculum, as well as other resources and realia (e.g. music, music videos, excerpts from children's books), in order to accomplish this goal. I also expect the students to be practicing what they have learned in class for at least 20-30 minutes at home in order to reinforce what has been taught. In addition to regular homework assignments, I recommend that all students make use of a binder, divided into five sections (nouns, verbs, verb conjugation tables, handouts and homework).
German 1 will cover the following areas:
Daily Required Materials
- Listening (comprehension)
- Reading (comprehension)
- Writing
- Speaking
- Culture

- Learning the alphabet, numbers and days of the week
- Introducing yourself and asking others who they are
- Talking about what you do in your free time
- Describing yourself, your family and others
- Conjugating a verb in the present tense
- Learning the proper articles der, die and das to go along with each noun
- Word order in a German sentence

- 1 hardcover binder
- 5 dividing tabs for the binder
- Pens (any color except for red) & pencils
- Loose leaf paper
- Pack of 100 note cards
- German/English dictionary (optional)
